Mark Laughlin is an American Freestyle Karate student at Lifeforce Karate and Fitness (Columbia, SC), and is a member of the Leadership Team, Competition Team, and Black Belt Club. He began his martial art training in kick boxing with Sugarr Banks, and after several months began his karate career with Mr. Billee Purvis.

Dr. Laughlin has competed in martial arts tournaments throughout the United States including competitions in California, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. He competed in 14 tournaments in 2009, and was actively competing in SKIL,
The DOJO, and the Martial Arts Tournament Tour (M.A.T.T.) competition circuits.

Dr. Laughlin completed the 2009 competition year ranked 1st in Traditional Forms (18+ and 35+), Contemporary/Creative Forms (18+ and 35+), Contemporary/Creative Weapons (18+ and 35+), Traditional Wepaons (18+ and 35+), and Sparring (18+ and 35+) in two competition circuits (DOJO, M.A.T.T.). Dr. Laughlin is undefeated in Contemporary/ Creative Forms, Contemporary/ Creative Weapons, and Traditional Forms. He holds a tournament sparring record of 49-5, and has won four Under Black Belt Grand Championships (The Southern Karate Classic, Winter/Spring Karate Tournament, Universal Karate Tournament  and The Black Warrior).

In December 2009, Dr. Laughlin won 7 World Amatuer Championships (Creative Weapons 18+, Creative Open Hand Forms, 18+ and 35+, Traditional Weapons 18+, Traditional Forms 18+ and 35+, and Sparring 18+ ) at the
Sport Karate International (SKIL) 2009 Super Grands/World Games in Buffalo, NY. He was also a Silver Medalist in 35+ Sparring..
